Seller: artemisgallery (683) 100%, Location: Louisville, CO, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 381721886401 Details: 19th C. Bronze / Iron Door Knocker - Boreas and Putti Europe or North America, ca. 19th century CE. This is a large cast solid bronze and iron door knocker. The iron piece is only used for attaching to a door and is not visible. The cast bronze is in the form Boreas, God of the North Wind, and a pair of Putti. Boreas' face is fixed to the door, angry and wild-haired; he calls to mind Jacob Marley's face on Scrooge's door knocker in A Christmas Carol. The Putti hold up the moveable part of the knocker; they stand on a decoration of scrolls and coiled shells. The door knocker was most likely originally from Europe, but may have been imported to the US to be placed on a grand house -- a similar one was salvaged from a home in South Carolina. The Renaissance and Baroque influences on its designer are clear. Size: 11.5" L x 6" W (29.2 cm x 15.2 cm). #112019 Condition: Intact and excellent. Provenance: Ex- Sarkisian Gallery, Denver, CO All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
