Seller: artemisgallery (694) 100%, Location: Louisville, CO, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 382508935316 Greek Archaic Bronze Attachment - Duck Motif Greece, Archaic Period, ca. 6th century BCE. A cast bronze attachment for a vessel - probably a lid - with a seated duck (or possibly swan/goose) on one side. The shape is a half circle, with a rectangular projection from one side - like viewing an axe-head in profile. The duck/swan is a repeated motif in Greek tableware, although its meaning is not entirely clear. The swan played a complex role in Greek mythology - as the attribute of Aphrodite and Apollo, said to sing a song of unearthly beauty as it dies, and as the form assumed by Zeus to ravish Leda, mother of Helen of Troy. Comes with custom stand. Size: 3.1" W x 3.5" H (7.9 cm x 8.9 cm); height on stand: 3.55" (9 cm). #121630 Condition: Tiny loss to tail of duck. Smooth, dark patina over entire surface.
