Seller: finartco (26) 100%, Location: Nicosia, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 252558122324 AUTHENTIC ANCIENT ATTIC POTTERY SPINDLE BOTTLE UNGUENTARIUM MUSEUM QUALITY ca. 4th-3rd CENTURY BC Offered is an exquisite museum quality ancient Attic unguentarium from ca. 4th-3rd century BC. This is an unguentarium with the characteristic spindle shape of this type of vessel: an ovoid body with a long, cylindrical neck and a shorter stem, flaring at the base and ending in a small, flat foot. The neck also flares at the end. It can stand in an upright position with extra care. Vessels like that were often used in the household or in funerary situations. Attic pottery was exported throughout the ancient world. For a long time, they dominated the market for fine ceramics. This is a splendid and delicate piece, ideal for a collection, an impressive gift or a first-class home decoration. Dimensions: 13.2 cm (5.2 in.) tall and 3.5 cm (1.4 in.) diameter in the middle. Weight is 55 g (1.9 oz). Provenance: old private collection. It is guaranteed authentic. The bottle has been restored “museum” style, which exposes the ancient part, making visible the bottle's history. The part restored is about one-third of the body from the middle to the top without refinishing or affecting the ancient part of the bottle (middle to bottom). Please examine all pictures carefully. Shipping is USD 12 worldwide by registered mail. Please take a moment to look at my other items! Please ask any questions before buying. Thank you for your interest. Unguentarium An unguentarium (plural "unguentaria") is a small ceramic or glass bottle found frequently by archaeologists at Hellenistic and Roman sites, especially in cemeteries. It’s most common use was probably as a container for oil, though it is also suited for storing and dispensing liquid and powdered substances. Material: Terracotta, Provenance: Old private collection
