This type of plate was used specifically for eating fish and shellfish as suggested by the many sea-life depictions found on vessels of a similar form. Condition: Loss to the rim and minor chips, glaze worn, otherwise intact and in good condition overall. Dimensions: Diameter: 14cm (5.5in). Provenance: Forming part of the James Stephan Snr. collection, and then by descent. Dr. Stephan was a US intelligence officer who also held a degree in archaeology.
