Seller: www-galleriadelvecchio-com (141) 100%, Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 173215146605 Here you find a large and rare molded Archaic Greek figure of a male figure balancing a dove in his hand at his chest. This terracotta is modeled after larger marble statues such as the korai from the Acroplis and East Greece. The result is this lovely example of a well moulded and pleasing votive that would have adorned the altar of a temple dedicated to the worship of a goddess. This terracotta has a distinctive face with large eyes, curved nose, slight smile, and long hair behind ears in rounded rows. He wears clinging drapery diagonally across chest, long sleeves hang from elbow, and skirt with diagonal bias pleats. Broken from ankles, minor loss on hair and edge of sleeve, otherwise in excellent condition. Comes with a custom lucite block stand. Measures 9.5 inches in height. Dates to circa 6th century BC. Provenance: Katherine King collection, Milwaukee, ex. Private NYC collection. Ex. old English collection. Ex. New York Art Gallery.
