Representing both rebirth and the sun god Ra, the image of the scarab was omnipresent in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians were highly superstitious, and amulets depicting the beetle were worn as conduits to sympathetic magic, used to attract power and protection.Here we have a hand-carved stone example of remarkable quality, from the carefully polished surface to the intricately carved eyes and feet; this is the work of an accomplished craftsman.For a similar published example, please see: Petrie, F.W.M. 1994 (2nd ed.).
