Purchased from an antiquities store in Arizona from a collector whose family had traveled in the Middle East and Mediterranean between 1940's-60's. AD 300-500 Sicily more below the fold ---- This is a beautiful example of a terracotta oil lamp from the late Roman empire. Unlike bronze lamps which were very expensive and only used by the well healed, clay lamps were for the everyday person. They burned olive oil. Size and Weight: 3-3/4" long, 2-1/2" wide, 1-1/2" tall handle 2.9 oz Additional Details: Oil Lamp has a nozzle, pouring hole and handle.
