WE ARE PLEASED TO OFFER AN OUTSTANDING ANCIENT LATE ROMAN OIL LAMP:
Ancient Late Roman Oil Lamp. 300 - 400 A.D. "These lamps are a continuation of the Roman discus lamps with some changes. The nozzle is a continuation of the body, which gives the lamps a more oval shape, rather than the round shape of the Roman lamps. The filling hole is relatively large and surrounded by a large rim. These lamps were found around Jerusalem, Beth Guvrin, Samaria, Ramallah and also in Jordan, mainly in burial caves."
This specific oil lamp is of the early ovoid type with a large filling hole, single rim around filling hole, lines on shoulders, knob as handle. Volutes and lines on nozzle. Raised rim around wick hole. Soot deposits on and around wick hole.
Measurements:
73.12 mm in length (2.879 inches) ; 49.24 mm wide (1.938 inches)
Reference: NOAM ADLER; 2004. Oil Lamps of the Holy Land; The Adler Collection. Old city press, Israel.
