An attractive burnished bottle, of globular form, with rounded base. A moulded figure of a young llama sits in rest atop the bottle with a cylindrical spout emerging from the beast's back. The Chimu are primarily known for their distinctive black glazed pottery, strongly influenced by their predecessors, the Moche. Examples of their enchanting ceramics can be found on display in the world's top museums. The Chimu ruled much of the coast around their capital of Chan Chan in northern Peru until conquered by the Inca in the fifteenth century. Ancient Peruvians left no written records, thus their material remains are the only existing link to this long gone and intriguing ancient people.
