This bottle, or unguentarium, is of clear or lightly brown tinted glass (it's hard to tell). Overall, it has some light iridescent silver, purple and green patina most noticeable in the neck. Its most common use was probably as a container for oil but it may have held other kinds of liquids or powders. In good condition except for the chip of glass missing at the rim. The dirt adhering to it is from its excavation site in Israel which was one of the largest areas of blown glass production in the Roman Empire due to the abundant sand available. This bottle was purchased in the 1960s from an Israeli gallery by the husband of the woman who sold it to us. It came with a certificate of authenticity that she has misplaced (she recently passed away so ). It would make a nice addition to any collection. Measures approximately: 5" (height) x 2" (diameter).
