This listing is for the large transferware meat platter or tray with well that you see in the photos. I purchased it at an estate sale where I was not told its history. It has a BH&Co (Beech Hancock & Co.) “Asiatic Pheasants” mark on the reverse. Some research tells me that it was made circa 1851-1855 in Burslem England. I think that it is a kind ironstone.

It measures close to 21 ¼ inches long by 17 3/8 inches wide by 2 inches high. I weighs about 9 pounds 11 ounces.

The condition is much like you see in the photos. It is generally in excellent condition. It appears to have been used very little if at all. There are no chips or signs of repair. There are two cracks in the sides on the top that I believe are firing or kiln cracks from when it was made. You can see them in the photos. They are not seen on the other side of the platter. The wider one measures about 3 ¼ inches long. The narrower one measures about 4 ½ inches. There several dark spots on the reverse that are irregularities in the glaze that I believe are from when it was fired. There is a faint small circle made by a line on the reverse that I do not know the cause of. I do not see any noteworthy scratches or worn areas. There is a small amount of very light crazing or very fine cracks in the glaze in a few areas. The unglazed areas on the reverse look soiled. I do not see any discoloration of the glaze. Otherwise, it is fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of its general condition.

I guarantee this platter to be as described and represented by the photos.

The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them.

Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there are shadows and reflections. Some of the photos were taken at an angle to avoid reflections. On my monitor, the colors are close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors.
