Title: Bronze Female Deity 'Uma', Prakhon Chai, Buriram Province. Khmer Influence. Pre-1800's.

Overview:x Sacred Female Goddess 'Uma', stylistically and iconographically executed in traditional Prakhon Chai style, bearing Khmer influence; gracefully portrayed standing in a convincing frontal posture on a square plinth, with what would have been both her arms elevated, holding attributes in each hand. The right hand holds a lotus bud, and the left hand is broken off at the elbow.

Image Details:x She is depicted standing bare foot in a straight forward posture, having her right arm raised holding a lotus bud, while the left arm is bent and broken off at the elbow. Her profile is beautifully modeled with a voluptuous figure, breast uncovered, partially covered by a long vertical striated Sampot wrap, which forms a circular flap hung low about the midriff, secured by an inconspicuous belt, and draped in an elegantly fashioned bell shape. Her youthful face with indigenous characteristics is delicately detailed with a serene expression, cheeks are plump, nose prominent, arched eyebrows set above open eyes, a wide mouth with an insipid smile, and long earlobes. Her hair is piled tightly into an almost cylindrical coiffure, know as a jatamukuta , embellished with looped braids, and adorned with the Buddha 'Amitabha', seated in meditation, centered on her headdress.XXX Lost wax casted, the bronze alloy has naturally aged to a dark brown patina, covered with malachite oxidation. The core at the base consist of a tempered sandy-clay mixture.

This skillfully executed image of Uma is a superb example of the Prakhon Chai artistry. Its creator has modeled a gracious interpretation of the divine iconic goddess in human form with lively imagination and conviction.
