Description: Lao Buddha image depicted standing in a strong frontal posture, on a small plinth, with both hands positioned in the symbolic gesture of reassurance, the Abhaya mudra, where both hands are raised to shoulder height, arms bent, and palms facing outward. XXX He is wearing a smooth clinging diaphanous garment worn in the 'Closed Mode', covering both shoulders, and includes an undergarment draped below the hem of the outter loin cloth, and the presence of a belt appears at the waistline, complimented by a plain central panel at the front. XXX His contoured face is highly detailed in a serene contemplative expression, with downcast eyes, ridged eyebrows connected above a prominent nose, smiling mouth and elongated earlobes. The head is covered by pin-size hair curls, surmounted by a domed-shaped Ushnisha, rising to a tall floral ornament finial. XXX The reverse skillfully reflects the un-interrupted flow of his monastic garment and clearly emphasizes the Laotian attribute. Extremely heavy, probably 80% solid bronze cast, with a beautiful naturally aged dark brown patina, and overlaying green malachite oxidation, slightly encrusted with embedded soil deposits, from the environment in which the piece was maintained. Cast in the lost wax method, the bronze surface has a naturally aged rich chocolate brown patina, partially covered with green malachite oxidation developing throughout.
