Many fragments like some of these old pieces have outlived the buildings that they once decorated.
DETAILS:
THIS ANTIQUE PIECE OF BEVELED MARBLE HAS NOT BEEN CLEANED AND WOULD BE LOVELY AFTER A CLEANING AND POLISHING. VERY ELEGANT ARCHITECTURAL ACCENTS PATIO OR GARDEN ACCENTS. VERY THICK, SMOOTH, APPROPRIATE FOR INDOOR OR OUTDOOR USE.
This listing is for one section of architectural marble trim . ( I have a large number of other Molding pieces that I can list on Ebay If interested) It is probably a fragment of a crown molding, which could have been used as part of an elaborate cornice or just part of a ceiling molding. The top of the fragment is flat and smooth-The front of the molding has the classic curves . This is some sort of an exterior lintel facade. Most historic commercial buildings have cornices to cap their facades. Usually found in buildings constructed before 1900, -- 70 years old or more - great vintage Architectural element.
Many like these could be used as art displayed on interior and exterior walls. As you can see in the photos there is aging but nothing out of character on such pieces. These pieces that I will be listing on Ebay have been outside for 50 plus years. The cornice could possibly even be polished ---I have not tried it to clean them or polish, although this old patina is handsome as is.
An Architectural like this could be used for various purposes other than what it was intentionally made. I am not certain of its original use but I think it originally would fit originally across the top of the window . From research I found that heavy lintels, like droopy eyebrows, ostensibly were originally used to protect the building, and to decorate it.
During the last century , cast stone was commonly used and even in the 19th century… used for exterior window and door surrounds or lintels, copings, parapets and balustrades, cornices and friezes, and sculptural ornament.
Whether you are adding, remodeling, or even starting new construction, this piece would be a nostalgic accent.
Attractive marble pieces like these came out from a very old 1800s Southern yards in Montgomery Alabama. Since Greek and Roman times, marble has been used for many thousands of years. This vintage natural stone is a geological marvel.
They have been stored for years and if they were polished they would be exquisite. Give your home a feeling of majestic beauty -- great accent your garden, or inside the home. Elegant at a doorway decorating your home or garden with marble . The marble have been in my parent's yard and have withstood weather but in need of cleaning and polishing. When cleaned they will once again be grand.
This marble art piece was part of this Southern Antique collector's possessions put to practical use where it once stood . Then as the old home was destroyed the collector carefully salvaged the tiles and stored in for more than half of a century. Some of this marble was used in his own home.
The 1966 Newspaper article said."Maybe the collector didn’t even remember where it was stored or why he had saved it all those years. Maybe just because he liked it , with no use in mind. But the fact remains that, in depths of the Great Depression when the decorative features of razed residences might be had, at least, for carting them away at most, for a song."What an elegant way to add an authentic Victorian flavor to your property. Whether you are remodeling, or even starting new construction.
