MORNING CRANES! A 7.5" Antique Japanese Bottle Vase With fantastic color transitions and golden Imperial Cranes!

Swirling cranes reach for the sky in this truly inspiring and unique Edo or Meiji-era Satsuma piece! This exceptional vase uses the canvas in an interesting way, mimicking the morning flight of cranes from the river.

The crackle of dawn, bringing the first flicker of warmth from the horizon, is depicted at the base of this piece and the occasional gold-gilted crane that catches the first sunbeams. Warm oranges transition into colder, yet natural green hues as you proceed up the vase. The neck of the vase is adorned delicate, gold gilt feathering, almost like it is draped in golden moss!

This vase is signed on the base in red. The piece was likely made in the late Edo or early Meiji era.

Condition:

This vase is in EXCELLENT condition! It has no outward flaws that would inhibit its full appreciation. There is some very light wear to the gold gilt along the neck, giving it a gently faded and living look. The base has a hairline that runs through the signature. By the looks of it, this hairline was likely made during the firing process and should be considered an original part of the piece.

Measurements (approx):

Height: 7 ½ in (19 cm)
Max width: 3 ½ in (9 cm)
