Antique French Sterling Silver Fish Serving Fork, Louis XV Style, Leontine Compère Master Silversmith, Paris T his antique French all sterling silver serving fork is designed on both sides in the Rococo style with “ Art Nouveau ” influences. The handle is designed in the Louis XV style with Rococo motifs of shells and acanthus, embellished with flowers and branches of leaves and berries. The handle is monogrammed with the interlaced initials “ L.W. ”. The cutwork upper part is engraved in a beautiful pattern of cattails, ginkgo and arum leaves, three favorite motifs of the Art Nouveau movement, and stylized acanthus leaves. It bears the French “ Minerve Premier Titre ” hallmark, indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838. It also bears a maker’s mark consisting of the letters “ Ve.E.C . ” along with the image of a rabbit, the mark of Léontine Compère , master silversmith in Paris between 1888 and 1919. Léontine Compère was the widow of Ernest Compère , master silversmith between 1868 and 1888 (the initials “ Ve.E.C . ” means “ Veuve Ernest Compère ”). This piece is in excellent condition with the exception of faint scratches due to great age and normal use. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
