This light blue or turquoise colored shaker has a surface with slanted wide ribs. It has a flat base and sides that rise to a ledge which continues into a threaded collar. It has a domed metal screw on lid with relatively large holes arranged in a five point star pattern. The shaker is of nice a smooth glass. Historical Background: Popular during the Victorian era, muffineers (also called sugar casters or sugar shakers) were a regular part of a well-set table. The muffineer would be filled with super fine "caster sugar," for sprinkling over any food in need of sweetening. Date: Mid 1800s Origin: Probably continental. Size: 4 3/8" tall and 2 3/8" in diameter at the base and weighs almost 7 ounces. Maker: Unmarked. Marks: Unknown.
