This extraordinary early Loetz, Barock art glass is a exceptional Paeonia floriform shape to find even as a candlestick holder. The peaonia / peony flower is yellow (uranium) opalescent and the applied petals are colourless glass. Colourless stem with thorns and applied leaves sparkle. The ornate yellow opalescent footed base has a scissor cut edge that is nice formed with polished edges underneath the base, and there's a polished pontil in the center of the base. As one would expect, the uranium glass glows neon green under a UV light. . 8-1/2" tall. The floriform rim is 3-5/8" diameter. The base 5-1/4" diameter. Candle holder 1-1/16" diameter. With this example, I had a yellow opalescent Paeonia years ago, and this example is previewed as part of Dr. Kai Hasslebach's, "An Attempt To Identifying Early Loetz Production From 1880-1897" research which can be found on the web. I've had the pleasure of owning a couple of other Paenia examples in pink opalescent and this decor is known as Aurora. These Loetz Paenia floriform shapes are exquisite to see. If you're a collector of Early Loetz, Barock glass, floriform and uranium shapes, this is a well sought after and must have in any art glass collection. Especially if the condition is pristine.
