It is an Absolute Pleasure to be Able to Share This Beautiful Box With You. This Chest Would Once Have Been Used to Store Precious Manuscripts or Sutras. The Very Pleasing and Contrasting Decoration of Black Lacquer and Gold Leaf is Referred to as The Shwei-Zawa Technique. The Box Lid Seems to Illustrate a Scene Depicting a Royal Parade or Perhaps Part of a Larger Story or Folk Tale. The Front and Sides of The Box Are Decorated With Repeating Hooked Circular Floral Medallions, Buddhist Lions and Figures in Traditional Costume. The Reverse of The Box is Decorated With Plain Black Lacquer. The Interiors of the Box and The Lid Are Decorated in a Monochrome Cinnabar Colored Lacquer. The Chest Has Been Created in Three (3) Different Sections Including The Lid, Box & Stand. I am Surprised to Find all Three Sections Still Together and in Such Well Looked After Condition. This Chest and The Highly Ornamental Kammavaca Manuscripts That Were Normally Kept Within it For Safe Keeping Were Often Commissioned by Wealthy Lay Patrons and Gifted to Monasteries and Persons of a High Social Standing. The Box Presents Beautifully and is Still Eye Catching 100 Years After it Was Made. It is Relatively Light and It is Likely The Carcass is Very Light Wood. Light But Extremely Strong and Durable, if Looked After. Date Circa 1900 Dimensions- Lidded Box: 67.5 cm long x 18 cm high x 23.5 cm deep Dimensions- Stand: 79 cm long x 12 cm high x 24.5 cm deep Dimensions On Display: 79 cm long x 28.5 cm high x 24.5 cm deep. Origin: Burma Guaranteed To Be As Described Condition: The Condition Of The Box and Lid Remains Extremely Good. There a Couple of Signs of The Usual Rubbing but Nothing Disturbing. The Stand Shows Signs of Age With Minor Losses to The Plain Black Lacquer and One Area of Separation/Losses Near One of The Corners. It Has Been Touched up But Has Not Been Filled. I Have Provided an Image for Clarity. It Does Not Detract as it Cannot be Discerned if This Section of The Stand Faces The Wall., Primary Material: Mixed Materials, Type: Box, Color: Gold, Original/Reproduction: Antique Original, Region of Origin: Burma, Age: 1850-1899
