Antique Ottoman Period Gilt Silver & Silk Embroidered Traditional Attire Costume
Late 19th-century, Turkey (Anatolia)
A complete beautiful late Ottoman period gilt silver embroidered traditional attire with hat, vest, shalwar pantaloons and a belt with coin purse. The vest has floral and Islamic calligraphic elements embroidered with silk and gilt silver threads on back. The fez form hat has a tugra motif embroidered at the top with gilt a silver tassel. The belt is embroidered with floral motifs and the coin pouch has calligraphy as the central element. The pantaloons with a pull string are decorated with floral motifs. This rich costume was probably used as ceremonial or holiday garment. Attractive, elegant, in good wearable condition for its age, shows some minor fraying of threads.
