Seller: Top-Rated Seller decoravirtu (604) 100%, Location: Kingston, New York, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 273930817536 LARGE ANTIQUE BEECH-NUT TIN / BOX WITH RURAL MOHAWK VALLEY SCENESFULLY FUNCTIONAL - WORKING LID AND LATCH - GREAT BLUE AND GREEN COLORS! This is a gorgeous scenic tin from the turn of the 20th century, depicting scenes of rural Mohawk Valley in upstate New York. So striking you could decorate an entire room around it! The Art Nouveau/Arts and Crafts period graphic motif of vine-like fretwork surrounds the lithographed scenes on each panel colored from a palette of richly muted blues and greens. The patina is relatively even overall, making for a lovely and charming statement piece. Dimensions:12 1/4"W x 11"D x 6 1/2"H As nice as a comparably-sized tole piece, this tin will blend nicely into both traditional and transitional interiors. In fact, it's the perfect item for that "Modern Farmhouse" look that is currently at the top of the trend. The quaint captions evoke an idealism of "America" at a more innocent time. Condition is very good! The hinge is intact and the lid-- with its own original simple metal latch-- opens and closes easily. You could store a lot in here: crafts, packaged foods, office supplies, sewing/repair items, etc. There is the slightest unevenness in the raised panel of the lid, but it is not obvious or noticeable unless you're looking for it, and it does not detract from or reduce the aesthetic or collectible value of the item. The colors are FANTASTIC! This item is CLEAN and is suitable for any room in your house. A little about the Beech-Nut Corporation Beech-Nut's roots go back to 1891, to the Mohawk Valley town of Canajoharie, New York. Raymond P. Lipe, along with his friend John D. Zieley and their brothers, Walter H. Lipe and David Zieley, and Bartlett Arkell, founded The Imperial Packing Co. for the production of Beech-Nut ham. The product was based on the smoked hams of the Lipes' father, farmer Ephraim Lipe. The company's principal products were ham and bacon for the first seven years. The Zieleys sold their shares to the Lipe brothers in 1892.
