This collection is from the Chinle formation in northeastern Arizona, an area famous for its varied and brilliantly colored petrified wood. It dates back to the Triassic era and is of the extinct species of tree, araucarioxylon Arizonicum. The different colors are due to the different minerals present during the petrification process. There are 14 pieces in this colorful 10 lb. collection, and they are fun to use in fairy gardens, model railroad layouts, and terrariums. They were photographed both wet and dry. They range in weight from 1 lb. 1 oz. to about 4.5 oz. They range in size from about 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" to about 2" x 1 1/2" x 1/2".
