Seller: b4nivek (3,669) 100%, Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 311553642617 Details: Up for sale is this piece of Asian Calligraphy that I know nothing about. I asked an older Asian friend who knows Japanese, Chinese (Mandrin), and Vietnamese, but all he said was that he thought it was some sort of student training piece. Maybe the tick marks on the different characters are for ones that student knows? Or maybe it is a business receipt? Or Or Or? Feel free to educate me on this. Please do! With the way it has been folded up and reused maybe it was some sort of identification papers? Or maybe it was a coupon for a buy 10 get one free, which is why the tick marks stop at 10? Okay, now I'm just being silly. Okay, as for age. I have placed it in the 19th century category based on the feel of the paper. In America paper turned away from the nice soft cottony paper into a dryer pulpier paper. If this was an American artifact, the paper would tell me it was pre-20th century; however, this quality of paper may very well have been used longer in Asia? What I can tell you is that the paper is soft and pliable. This measures around 5 1/8" by 5 1/2". The green woodblock print part is around 3 1/2" by 5 1/8". As you can see from the fold marks in the past it has been folded down into quarters. It doesn't fold any smaller although there are more folds? It is worn on the folds like this has been folded and put in and out of a pocket for quite a while. There are a couple tears in the top left-hand corner (when oriented with the larger calligraphy along the right hand edge and the wider white border to the top). These look like tears where it might have been pinned to something as pins were commonly used to attach papers back then. There are also corner folds. Please inspect the pictures and ask any questions about condition. This will be shipped laid out flat in an acid free plastic sleeve inside of a rigid envelope. Please e-mail with any questions. Please check out my other auctions as I am always happy to combine shipping (on items purchased in the same auction) to save you money. Thank you, Kevin
