Item:273835529088Description: A beautiful and charming Byzantine silver iconographic ring featuring a round section hoop and an oval bezel engraved with a male figure of a Saint. The Saint is clearly depicted on the left hand side of the oval bezel, holding a cross. It is possible to glimpse at his feet an animal, perhaps a small dragon: in this case the Saint could possibly represent Saint George or Saint Theodore. The dragon is in fact a typical iconographic attribute of both Saint George and Saint Theodore, aimed at witnessing the victory of good over evil and sin. The ring is an interesting testimony of religious Byzantine jewellery. C. 7th-9th century AD.
