Description: Divine Trinity. Dattatreya or Datta is considered by Hindus to be the god who is an incarnation of the divine trinity, the three main Hindu gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. He is popularly depicted as a reclusive and ascetical Saadha (holy person) living in the forest or wilderness, suggestive of his renunciation of worldly comforts and possession and pursuit of a meditative lifestyle. Image Details: The image is exquisitely modeled in traditional Indian, Tibetan, and Nepal style, cast of bronze, unaltered and unrepaired, with intricate detailing of the features, depicting the divinity figure Datta with distinct characteristics - he always has three faces, Vishnu facing forward, with Shiva on the left and Brahma on the right. He has six hands holding attributes each having their esoteric meanings. Accompanying Dattatreya are four (4) dogs and a cow. The four dogs are both wild and tame and symbols of fidelity and devotion. The cow is Kamadhenu the gift giving cow who grants all wishes and desires. She is the cow of plenty, which emerged from Samudramanthan (the churning of the ocean) and was claimed by Indra as his property. She is the mother of all cows. xxxxxx Dattatreya is shown as the three headed divinity figure with six arms about him, holding attributes, while standing on a single level plinth. The figures physical form is well proportioned, clothed in a stylized sampot garment, secured by a decorative belt tied around his waist, embellished with a jeweled necklace, armlets, and bracelets. Each head displays matted locks sculpted into a bulbous headdress, rising to a domed ushnisha and ornament finial. He is surrounded by four dogs and a cow standing behind him.
