Description: The image is exquisitely modeled in traditional Indian, Tibetan, and Nepal style, cast of bronze, unaltered and unrepaired, with intricate detailing of the features, depicting the divinity figure Lord Krishna dancing precariously over the subdued Five-hooded naga snake Kaliya. Krishna was the eighth avatar (incarnation) of Vishnu, who was the major Hindu Deity who preserves and protects the world and comes to earth as avatars to help people. Kaliya was the five-hooded serpent, the dreaded multi-hooded snake in the River Yamuna. Image Details: Krishna is seen in a dance position subduing the Kaliya snake with his left foot on the serpents hood and his right leg raised in the air. The right hand raised in the 'Abhaya' mudra, the gesture of reassurance, while the left hand holds the naga's tail. The figures physical form is well proportioned, clothed in a stylized regal garment, secured by a decorative belt tied around his waist, embellished with a jeweled necklace, armlets, and bracelets. His head displays matted locks secured by an interconnected crown, and is sculpted into a tall conical headdress of braided hair loops, rising to an ornament finial. xxxxxxThe serpents torso rest upon an elevated lotus throne, with its five heads arched upwards over the presence of a small meditating Buddha image centered on the serpent's hood.
