Description: The image is exquisitely modeled in traditional Indian, Tibetan, and Nepal style, cast of bronze, unaltered and unrepaired, with intricate detailing of the features, depicting the Hindu figure Lord Garuda, a divine eagle-like sun bird and king of all birds who is described as a celestial deva with wings. He is described to be the Vahana (vehicle) mount of the Hindu god Vishnu and typically they are shown together. He is shown in anthropmorphic form, half man and half bird, a human figure with wings and some bird features. Image Details: In this rare iconographic human form, Garuda is shown sittting in a relaxed posture of 'Maharajalilasana' (royal ease), with his hands pressed together in the anjali (Namaskara) posture, the gesture of greeting, prayer, and respect. He has pointed eagle-like nose, beak, legs, his eyes are open, and he is ready for flight with his partially open wings. The figures physical form is well proportioned, clothed in a mere sampot secured around his waist, embellished with a jeweled necklace, armlets, and bracelets. His head displays matted vertical locks secured by a headdress of floral loops, draped to both sides of his in large rosette earring pendants.
