Description: An exquisite pair of Majestic Monarchs, cast of solid bronze, beautifully rendered by the artist, depicting a breed of sheep which for centuries have inhabited the Shetland Isles of Scotland, usually found perched precariously on uneven snowy cliffs of the Scottish highlands. The are characterized by their short tails, large distinct curly horns, short legs with two-toed hooves, and long dense shaggy wool coats. The surface of the metal has a well aged dark reddish-brown patina with green malachite oxidation.. Overview: Shetland Sheep - The Shetland is the smallest wool producing breed of sheep found mainly on the Shetland Isles of Scotland, and are believed to be of Scandinavian origin. It is part of the northern European short-tailed sheep group, and is closely related to the extinct Scottish Duface.
