This scene depicts a tall likely influential woman (Helena?) standing attended by a ladies' maid with treasure chest. At right, a female attendant holds onto treasure chest, and says καλός (kalos, "beautiful") as lady is dressing/being dressed with silk fabric. The attendant waits for direction from her master. The scene is drawn in a loose sketch like design with some color details on a white figure background. Around the top is a decorative pattern band with a meander design. The underside of this vase says that it is a handpainted copy by P. Vaglis after an original in the Museum in Brussels (Belgium) from 460 BC. The origin region and shape are Attic Lekythos. In Athens, in the 5th century BC, while many artists were making red-figure vases, some artists were experimenting with a new technique of painting figures on a white ground. These white figure vases were decorative as well as funerary vases. The artist would use brighter colors; red, blue, and brown. The cloths were lightly painted and revealed the form of the body underneath.Gallery quality reproduction made in Greece from terracotta, hand spun on the wheel, certified by the Greek Ministry, and measures 50.5cm (h) x 45 cm (c). The painted details have a recently unearthed finish. NOTE: This is a large vase. It is substantial and makes a grand impression. The design work and figures are done in a "sketch" style, loosely and quickly drawn. Presumably it is completed this way to replicate the original in the Museum in Brussels and earlier in Athens. We have not seen the original of this vase from the museum. This vase is no longer manufactured. Once ours are sold, they are gone forever. As such, it is a treasure as if it were an original Greek museum piece. Our vase is already over 15 years old! Dimensions: 50.5cm (h) x 45cm (c).Colour: terracotta, no fading from sun/light.Condition: pristine condition - as good as new: it looks like the vase has cracks but these cracks are painted (copied from the cracked original). This vase has no cracks, no chips. Pick-up from central London, or via postal services as buyer's risk. Any questions, please let me know. Condition: Pristine! Guaranteed., Type: Large oil flask, Colour: Terracota/ sand/ red&brown tones, Provenance: Originally Greece, Material: Terracota
