Unused heavy and sturdy survival knife with fiberglass scabbard, both in EXCELLENT+ conditions. The bowie blade is made of carbon steel, it has a main plain edge, serrated false edge and sawback. It has a blackened treatment apparently with a special type of paint resistant to scratches, anyway some marks can be seen on its surface. On the left ricazzo is the Still brand logo inlaid in a bronze circle. It has a 4-line checkerd hollow handle, the pommel is a plastic snap cap with a compass in the outer face that does not works (needle is loose), handle seems to be waterproof. The handguard is large and very robust, has two threaded cylinders at the ends of back side to screw the polished steel tips to use the knife as a hook, threaded cylinder at bottom has a hole to pass a rope. Handguard has the same blade's blackened treatment , while hilt is blued, retaing most of its blueing. It has an innovative plastic sheath made from black fiberglass (consider that in '80s Kydex does not existed), with a black leather pocket for the tips with a black leather strap that is secured to sheath with two zinc plated screws. The belt loop is made of grey cordura fabric. The leather is a bit dryed and the cordura is a bit faded. Biedma Street in Rosario (Province of Sante Fe), 300 km-200 miles at NW of Buenos Aires city. From its beginnings the main activity was the manufacture of armored cabins for banks and armored trucks, and during the eighties the activity was diversified and managed to manufacture a number of items that among them we find cutlery for refrigerators, sports and military, fishing rods, pool cues, fish grills, etc.. The main years of knife manufacturing were from 1986 until they closed in 1995.  They started with knives for meat processing companies that had the particularity that their wooden handles were coated with fiberglass to prevent the accumulation of bacteria, resulting in a more resistant product than the knives with thermoformed plastic hilts. With many innovative ideas on that period for the knife industry in Argentina, we can highlight the manufacture of threaded tool kits to be used with some knives' handles (the "Equipo Desafío" -"Challenge Set"- see catalog #56) and the manufacture of special heavy 12 mm (1/2") thick machetes for bush. The activities ended in 1995, years in which the national industry was seriously hit by the '90s economic policies.  They produced professional high quality handmade knives with innovative designs, to be used for meat/bbq, diving, bush, hunting, survival, combat use, with classic and ritual, dagger and oriental models, someones have an almost weird design that can be classified as "post-apocalliptic" or futurist models...  Please see their catalogue in the last photograph, where it is stated: "5160/9260 steels, or 420/440 stainless steels are used. Carbon steels, according to the sporting consensus, have more easy to maintain cutting edges, regardless of the possibility of staining. Stainless steels or chrome vanadium can be used on request at an extra charge of U$S__ each. The Rambo models (the only ones with a cutting edge for iron rods up to 10 mm) have metal handles, as do the Argentine Daggers - Fairbanks or the Buck Master. The rest of the handles are made of selected hardwoods or deer horn, estimating a surcharge of U$S__ for the latter variant.  IMPORTANT: The bimetallic temper of our knives preserves them from fracture under stress."
