Ancient Chinese Nan Hong Pema Raka Engraved Stone (Buddhist). Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. A rare and ancient "melon shaped" Pema Raka (Nan Hong) carnelian bead, coming from China-Tibet. Known in Himalaya and Mongolia, at least 18th century, almost surely older. In Tibetan medicine the Pema Raka is believed to protect from evil spirits and to absorb illnesses. This charm has been engraved with the picture of Buddha and contains a metal hook to hang it on a necklace. Comes with a beautiful protective case.   "Pema Raka" is the Tibetan name and originates from the sanskrit words "Padma" (meaning Lotus flower) and "Rakta" (meaning red or blood), so the translation sounds like "blood lotus" or "red lotus". Nan Hong means "red from south" in chinese. These beads range from orange to deep red in colour, depending on iron's inclusions in chalcedony. They might also display crystalline banding.
