Seller: neilsowards (7,061) 100%, Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 382552781339 Burma, Myanmar. Carved wood wall plaque. 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches (213 x 130 mm) Burmese Chinthe. The Burmese chinthe is found at the entrances of temples. It is sort of a mythological creature that is a sort of lion-dragon. It was used on Burmese coins. Teak used to be fairly common in Burma but so much has been harvested, it is now scarce and expensive. These are some other wood maybe padauk which is a good hard wood. Also Burma is developing. No longer are people willing to work for thirty cents a day. Wages are now up to $3 per day! The last time I visited in 2013 I noticed a significant decline in the quality of the art work because they wanted to produce more (for more income) in less time.Toe on one is chipped off and tip of tail is chipped. These are carved on one side and uncarved on the wall side. This item is from the estates of my parents and sister. My parents were missionaries to Burma 1921 to 1966 (with breaks). My sister was born there and visited a number to times so their Burma items were collected 1921 to about 2010. Lots may be combined to save on postage. The $26.95 is for Registered First Class Mail. If I can send it via eBay, I will refund excess postage. Material: Carved wood, Provenance: Ownership History Available
