Seller: neilsowards (7,000) 100%, Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 382552784762 Burma, Myanmar. Round Lacquerware wall plaque. 9 inch diameter. (227 mm) Burmese Chinthe. The Chinthe is a mythological beast, a sort of lion-dragon and found at the entrances of temples. It is also found on modern Burmese coins. The gold is real gold. The Burmese are able to beat gold into very thin sheets—the thinnest in the world! And that gold is what is on this plaque. I think the Burmese are still making these plaques but I have no idea of the cost now. The workmanship on this plaque is superb! Burma is developing. No longer are people willing to work for thirty cents a day. Wages are now up to $3 per day! The last time I visited in 2013 I noticed a significant decline in the quality of the art work because they wanted to produce more (for more income) in less time.It is so shiny you can see my reflection in its surface. My sister put a tab on the back so she could hang it on the wall. I think it could be carefully removed. This item is from the estates of my parents and sister. My parents were missionaries to Burma 1921 to 1966 (with breaks). My sister was born there and visited a number to times so their Burma items were collected 1921 to about 2010. Lots may be combined to save on postage. The $22.95 is for Registered First Class Mail. If I can send it via eBay, I will refund excess postage. Material: Lacquerware, Provenance: Ownership History Available
