Weight: 17.07 gr Height: 710 mm Width: 170 mm The first (upper inscription) has as follows: «ΑΓΙΕ CΕΡ/ΓΙΕ ΒΟΗΘΙ/CΥΜΕΟΝΙΟΥ» (Saint Sergius, help Symeonius) The second (columnar) inscription reads: «ΝΙΚΑ Η ΤΥΧΗ ΠΡΑΣΙΝΟΝ» (THE LUCK OF THE GREEN WINS) The bearer of the buckle, obviously a byzantine greek speaking officer, called Symeonios, had the great martyr Sergius as a patron saint and belonged to the party of Prasinoi (Greens). Symeonios, according to paleographical dating, flourished betwen 8th and 10th centuries. The inscriptions as well as the several decorations of this lovely piece are handmade (carved).
