We present a charming figurative study in oils, children, probably siblings sheltering in a storm, with the elder brother pulling a protective tarpaulin over his younger sister, a work we are attributing to the British painter Thomas Pelham Hall (c1810 – 1870). The painting is signed T Hall and not T Pelham Hall, so we are only attributing this work to the artist;  all the attributes, such as age, style and known examples of his work, point to the artist.     Hall was renowned for his studies of life interactions, whether in a study, in conversation, a brawl in the street, people passing an antiquities shop and looking in.  A study of family life is a subject Hall visited frequently,, whether fishing by the lakeside, a picnic or indeed, families sheltering from an overhead storm.  Date indistinctly 1853,or possibly 1858, this painting has been fully restored and relined (please see the condition report above). Many examples of the work of Thomas Pelham Hall can be seen at artprice.com, artnet.com, findartinfo.com, askart.com, arcadia.com, bonhams.com and christies.com; with several works appear on ArtUK in the National Collection.   Presented in very good overall condition (please refer to the condition report) in a later gilt frame,  this painting will look fabulous displayed.
