Our example includes an ornate document dated 22 August 1907 and made out to a Carl Friedrich Rohte. It is signed by the Ordens Kanzler. This is a civil, and not a military, award. Either he was a very small adult or he was a child and this would make this a kinder belt. But the curiosity runs further. Generally officer belts have a felt or sometimes a velvet backing. This has a WHITE SILK backing! There is shredding to this just like we often see in the silk liners to pickelhauben. My guess is whether this was for a small adult or a child he may have been a royal. The buckle is a fine burnished gilt. The fire gilding has a fine patina to it.Regardless this is a wonderful belt and buckle and would make a fine addition to any collection.

Germany Trench Art Vase, Candlestick or Ink Pen Holder - This is a wonderful piece of trench artwork. It shows the attention that was paid to an approximately 20mm shell. The casing stands 4 1/2″ tall. Its edges have been fluted. The shell is then mounted on THREE different bases, which have been combined into one. The top base is made of glass. It is then mounted on a black marble base. The black marble base is in turn mounted on a metal base. It appears to be brass, as is the shell casing. It is a very fine example that would look very gorgeous with a single rose bud.

Germany Trench Art Ashtray and Lighter combination - This is an interesting ashtray suitable for use on a desk or table. The ashtray’s bottom has been cut from a brass cannon shell casings' bottom. Looking at the bottom, one can see where the firing pin would strike the shell, causing it to fire.
