1889 Letter from a young lady in Tx to her grandfather - Two page letter from a young lady named Lu Woodard from Bynum, Wood County Texas to her grandfather who isn't identified. She talks about it being a long time since they have seen him and she would like to have more contact. She gives him the names of all of her siblings and says that her ma is going to get their photographs taken when they have the money. The letter has been folded many times over the years and has condition issues but is still legible even with the folds. The letter has been placed in an archival envelope with a cardboard backer.

The writer states that he thinks it's his own imagination that he has money worries. He suggests contacting Wells Fargo Express Co. in San Fransisco and sending a draft. The writer states that we would like him to come but feels that his health isn't that good and that a 3500 mile trip from the "Springs" would not do him any good. There's a little more to the letter, mentioning Wells Fargo again and some wording that I cannot make out. Condition is very nice and clean with no tear or stains and two creases from mailing. Nina further apologizes for the use of the red ink but she was out of black and the walk to Kirwin town was 8 miles and that Kirwin was "silly, with no churches or sidewalks.".

1896 letter from WJ Wiman Bellair, IL to an unknown person No. 5 96 - Letter to an unknown recipient from W J Wiman (William Johnson Wiman) 1841-1914. Mr. Johnson was born in Sullivan County, IN and died in Crawford Co, IL. He was married twice to sisters Sarah Ellen Hunt and Anna Elizabeth Hunt. He and Sarah had 10 children all who lived to adult hood. In the letter written from Bellair, IL an unincorporated area in Crawford County, he writes he got home at 7 o'clock and looked for a book and couldn't find it until the morning. He went out that morning to gather corn, ended up the day with 1900 bushels. On the second page is a recipe for something in which a person mixed all the ingredients and bathed one a week in it for nine weeks.

The letter is from Benjamin Rand about the sale of a shed. The envelope measures 5-1/4 x 2-13/16 inches. The enclosed letter is one page on a folded lettersheet measuring 4-7/8 x 7-1/2 inches. The postal markings are a circle mark of 32 mm EAST CAMBRIDGE MASS MAY 7 (no year). The three cent Washington Scott catalog # 65 is canceled with a barred circle measuring 20mm. The stamp, which is perforated extremely off center, overlaps the edge of the envelope. The envelope has a tear in the back flap from opening. There are a few light stains and some wear. The older letter is from Elizabeth’s father named Joseph Fishbough . The 1857 letter is from her brother William Fishbough who was a Universalist preacher and a noted author. Elizabeth had two nephews who served in the Civil War and the family had ties to the Underground Railroad in Michigan. Really interesting pieces.The letter from her father appears to have been written after Elizabeth left home and is full of fatherly admonitions.The letter from her brother describes his journey from Philadelphia to Boston via ocean as well as his impressions of Boston.

Hartshorn in Pembroke, to his love interest in Lebanon, Windham County, Connecticut. He has been busy in the harvest fields, and his business will keep him in Pembroke at least through February 1. Hartshorn is a well-known name in the annals of Pembroke, but this worker seems more transient. This is a very unusual piece, somewhat fragile. Folded against some of the original folds. This is written soon after the settlement of Pembroke.

William had many accomplishments in his life including patenting a photographic developing apparatus and running for New York city mayor in 1846 under the Native American party. In 1850 he built the Cozzens hotel on the edge of a cliff in Highland Falls, New York, located on the former grounds of Lady Cliff College. The hotel burned down and he quickly rebuilt it. The building currently is the West Point Visitors Center and Museum. He is buried on the grounds of church of Holy Innocents right across from the museum..

(July 17th 1877) Writer states that she was surprised that the dept had been turned over to a lawyer for collection. And that her husband knew no other way to pay him and if the doctor came to their house to collect it would be at his risk of physical harm. And that they need more of those “drops “which prevents Mr. Wyman from twitching. Mrs. Wyman states her husband rode up to see the doctor after he received his first notice on the dept. from the attorney… but you were not home and left two dollars at his door”. The letter in essence is a plea for the good doctor to forgive the dept and continue to issue them medicine despite no intention by Mr. & Mrs. Wyman of paying for it.

1848 ALS Jerome Fuller New York State Senator Chief Justice Minnesota - ALS from Jerome Fuller corresponding to W.D. Soheer perhaps Soher? concerning legal matters. Dated 5th of February of 1848 Genesco, New York. Two well-written pages. Jerome Fuller was born in 1808 in Litchfield, Connecticut to parents Alpheus Fuller and Amy Turrill. His mother died when he was 7. He married Lucy Pratt in 1834 and had two sons. He moved to Brockport, New York and he served as a New York state senator for the 27th District from 1848 to 1849. He also worked as an editor of the Albany Register. He was appointed Chief Justice of the Minnesota Territorial Supreme Court by President Millard Fillmore on November 13, 1851, replacing Aaron Goodrich. The United States Senate rejected his appointment, but word of the rejection did not reach St. Paul until after Fuller had arrived here and begun his duties.

Mr. Steffen was known for his famous "Tish – I – Mingo" cigar. Letter was sent to Indianapolis Indiana tobacconist and cigar maker Andrew Steffen whose warehouse was on the Historic National Road in that city. Steffen was famous for making a cigar known as "Tish I Mingo". The envelope has a George Washington two cent stamp and is addressed to Mr Steffen at his factory at 220 East Washington St. in Indianapolis. The ornate envelope is 6" wide by 3 1/2" tall with a return address of: "Price Drug Co." (name "Grear Brothers" crossed out) New Drug Store Cor. Fourth and Chestnut Streets Evansville, Indiana" and has a lengthy advertisement for "Merchant's Gargling Oil Liniment" from Lockport, New York.
