When I was about  12 years old,I used to ride my bicycle about 4 miles into Findley Lake New York.  (I have seen a postcard on eBay of a steamboat in Findley Lake, dated about 1890, that appears to have been taken from about the location of his house). I met an elderly man who lived in an old wooden house, who always invited me in to talk. He had a lot of old things. I noticed a very heavily made drum, and these drumsticks; as I was learning to play drums in school. He told me he had been a drummer boy in the Spanish American war, and was in Cuba; when he was 12 years old.I'm not sure how he did that at 12, but that was an unusual war, and he probably just went along with someone, by boat.,perhaps Teddy Roosevelt. I don't know. .  but I'm sure he was telling the truth... When he died, My Mother bought me the drumsticks at the estate sale; though someone else had bought the drum. These are very heavy duty; he had told me they were made of ebony. He apparently added the nickel plated brass cartridge or shotgun shell  cases; not sure whether for appearance, or for balance.  If you are a drummer who loves history, you should both feel the good vibrations these carry on,and will have no fear of damaging them; as nothing made today is as stong as they are..Any advice as to identity and date of the shell cases would be appreciated.  They appear to be maked P D&CO Patented Nov 29 1884.. I now live in Sebring, the Heart of Old Florida, and haven't played drums for a half century, so it's  time to pass them on to someone who will cherish them. I made a nice dark wood wall bracket, with mounting screws, that is included...I have other marine and 19th century antiques. (Look on the Books,Literature,Art section of my eBay store). You may contact me at 1 954 JAGUARS , or C. any time 1 954 JAGPART . I ship Priority Mail in the US, or insured Express  mail out of the US, which is faster with better tracking than Priority...  Thank you, James Dean

  • Condition: Very Good condition; very rugged and heavy duty. I acquired these from an elderly man who had been a 12 year old drummer boy in the Spanish American War, in Cuba, so know they are authentic.Cartridge cases probably added for balance,in wartime conditions. Believe marked P D&CO. Patented Nov 29 1884
