Seller: pmblues (905) 100%, Location: Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Ships to: US, Item: 300961753140 Fender Telecaster Bass 1971 Built From the Original Jigs of the 1954 Precision Bass with a White Pickguard 1971 Is Last Year of the First Series Telecaster Bass with Single Coil Pickup Excellent Clean Original Condition Original Hard Case Only 8 lbs 14 oz w/Covers I love Tele Basses and have owned more than 25 of this first version Telecaster Bass. This is a nice example, nice and light, really great sound and sweet playing with Reverse Pearloid Guard and Original Covers and Case. In 1967, Fender pulled out the original jigs used to manufacture the 1952-1954 Precision Bass, and used them to build these first version Telecaster Basses. Fender started Telecaster Bass production in March 1968, and made batches through late 1971. For the 1972 model year, Fender Management made the decision to "update" the Telecaster Bass (defacto 54 P Bass Reissue), and put the infamous "Fender Humbucking Bass Pickup" in place of the venerable single coil pickup that was used in the original Precision Bass from 1951 to 1957, and in the Telecaster Bass from 1968 to 1971. This 1971 Tele Bass has a Volume Pot dated 51st week of 1970, so this bass was likely assembled early 1971. It has the green number neck end code typical of 1969 to 1971 Fenders. It denotes a C Neck, wider than standard, and with a nice chunky feel. Not a bat, but chunky and substantial. This neck size is very rare. Serial number is 298779. By August 1971 Fender re-introduced the Month/Year stamp it previously used in the early to late 1960s, so this is an early 1971. One owner bass is in excellent working condition, and is all original. First version Tele Basses were built from the original 1950's P-Bass jigs, so these first version reissues are closest to their early 50's origins, and are a great alternative to the Mega Multi Thousand Dollar Originals. If you appreciate a Classic Fender Vintage Bass that sounds great, you'll love it.
