Seller: faganarms (105) 100%, Location: Clinton Township, Michigan, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 322166025610 FINE SAXON BRONZE CROSS 9th-10th century. Originally plated, just over 1" high, symmetrical, with large concentrically figured terminals and a central square with a saltire, each side. Fine patina with the suspension intact. Saxons were late to accept Christianity and did so only after their defeat by Charlemagne in the early 9th century. It's possible that these crosses were worn as an indication of that acceptance and by extension, submission to Carolingian rule.
