Seller: xpjunk (6,745) 100%, Location: Kansas City, Kansas, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 391168901054 Material: Bronze, Details: I have here a pair of andirons I found some time ago in an old Kansas estate. I have tried to find other examples of these and to no avail. Here is what I have and based on my research these are French Chenet Fire Dog andirons. The outline looks like the back of a piano which has a shawl with a rope tassel in the middle. There is a pineapple finial at the corners. Whats really neat is there is a whippet / greyhound dog lying between the finials. The dog looks to be bronze and the stand is brass and the detailing of the dog and stand is nice. I have looked these over and cannot find a mfg. name. I found examples of the stand which did not have the dog and it was listed as Louis XVI. These are definitely old. There are a couple of screws missing that connects the dog to the platform. One is for the paw and the other is for the elbow area of the dog. I am sure these are replaceable as they are just missing and not broken off. The back support is cast iron. The andirons measure 8 3/4" wide, 7 1/2 high to the top of the dogs head and is 4 1/4" front to back. The metal has a nice old patina and they could use a good cleaning which I will not do. Structurally they are in great shape. These are very decorative pieces regardless whether one have a fireplace or not. These could be very rare. They are offered as found with NO RESERVE.
