This large Fukagawa biscuit jar for the English market features a blue underglaze and polychrome Nishikide design from the Meiji Period which spanned from 1868 to1912. Nisikede is a term that refers to a dense design with a particular palette of overglaze enamels, along with the blue underglaze. The motif features a lotus blossom within an imari palette and was produced sometime between 1890 and 1910. The collar, lid and handle where crafted by silversmiths Jonathan Bell and Sons, Sheffield. It has the Fukagawa "mountain" mark on the base. "J.B.&S" is stamped on the lid on the reverse side of the finial. This remarkably find biscuit jar has no chips, dents, crazing or nicks. There is no corrosion, damage or repair. 10 1/2" tall to top of handle 7 1/2" tall to top of finial on lid 6 1/4" at widest point
