It measures 183mm and 208mm on the custom wood base.The weight is 487 gm.The raised right hand is missing and the object it originally held was probably an orb or sphere. Please note the support tubing in the forearm that was required to make a hollow bronze Lost Wax casting with this kind of detail. Also the frontal area of the left foot is missing.The molded area of the base mount fills that structure (see photo).The figure shows a cornucopia wrapped in the hairstyle,very finely rendered folds in Fortuna's robes,and beautiful classically rendered facial structure."Fors Fortuna " was a goddess of fate and the firstborn daughter of Jupiter.Fortuna was highly regarded by Romans of all economic classes.Many Roman homes featured devotional areas for Fortuna.Portable sizes of her likeness were frequently carried about by citizens on important trips for business,military,and personal journeys.Julius Ceasar was said to have carried a representation of Fortuna on his many military expeditions.The provenence is the Ex DR.Gerald Smith collection,one of the founders of the San Bernardino County Museum System in California.Acquired in the 1950's.A highly desirable,original,and authentic rare addition to any classical art collection.This is a centerpiece sculpture that will only appeciate in value over the years.Authenticity Guraranteed.
