After the successful compilation “The Best And The Rare Of Gama Records”, which features a high proportion of German heavy metal from the eighties, the Golden Core label is now going into even more detail and depth! Spurred on by the items found during the work on the “Gama Sampler”, they teamed up with the fanzine “Sound & Action”, which has found a niche in this segment and deals with many forgotten but also rare gems Germany concerned. Editor Oliver Butz is also a private collector and real archivist, especially when it comes to the Vorderpfalz region. Neudi from Golden Core Records originally comes from the Ludwigshafen area and has experienced the scene there. He is also right in the middle of the topic: Since 2016 he has been the drummer for one of the first metal bands from Germany: Trance.
In addition to a few contributions that the two of them can call “regional” from their point of view (trance is probably the most well-known here too), you will find rarities from Allen corners of Germany. The best-known bands are Avenger (predecessor group of Rage, here with a piece of a 12" single), Mass, Black Jack Co (predecessor of the speed troupe SDI) and Xandril. And even here we are already talking about fodder for insiders. One name should be a household name among rock fans: Jutta Weinhold. She is represented with an unreleased (!) recording from 1978 (!), plus a backing band that can be called the Who's Who of Krautrock. This oldest song on “Sound & Action” stands for German hard rock (or proto-metal), which was important for later actors. In contrast, the crude and sometimes slow death metal of the almost unknown band Excess and the hectic speed metal of Defender from Speyer. Examples from almost 160 minutes of metallic content.
Most of the contributions on this double CD will be new territory for the ears of almost all metal fans. It's all the more shocking when you hear how many talented bands fell by the wayside for no reason in the eighties and nineties. In this respect, “Sound & Action”, with the now important addition “Volume One”, is a kind of mission from the two people responsible. Rare singles, titles from hard-to-find regional LP compilations, CD in-house productions and of course demo tapes are dug up here so that - restored and remastered of course - they can tell their part of the history of “German Metal” in 2021. Fortunately, there were hardly any problems with the sound; only four pieces at the end of CD 2 have small losses, which are discussed in more detail in the booklet. The rest comes out of the speakers in the way you were once used to from the heroes of the eighties, for the most part fresher and more fresh than many current bands...
