Item:133022557396Welcome to our auction Greek Ceramic Art " Woman with pitcher " by Panos Valsamakis ( 1900 - 1986 ) Extremely rare DESCRIPTION: Here you are viewing a absolutely gorgeous, handmade and hand painting old and authentic ceramic statue of art, enamel, with excellent glazed, refractory that was created in the year 1933 by the famous Greek artist Panos Valsamakis, one of the most important ceramist, of the 20th century. This statue is one of the very few sculpture works of Valsamakis, that have been saved, of his first eriod (1930-1942), during which he was artistic director of the "Kerameikos" factory and it is extremely collectible, unique. Ceramic tile of Valsamaki you can find, but a statue is difficult until to impossible to find. (Note that, "Kerameikos" rom year 1942 up to 1946, they him occupied by the Germans, during the WW2 and had stopped his production). It is signed in Greek with the monogram of the artist "ΠΒ" and dated 1933 in the inside the base. Also inside the base there is an elliptical stamp of the factory "Kerameikos" SA. It depicts a young woman from a village with her traditional costume, holding a pitcher of water. Except for an slight deficiency, with a small scratch on the back of the head, nothing the serious, (see photo 9), it is in very good condition. Panos Valsamakis (1900-1986): Studied painting in the period 1923-1930 in the Ecole des Arts in Marseilles and ceramics at the School of Saint-Jean du Desert. During the years 1930-1942 directs the artistic workshop "S.A Kerameikos", while from 1942 to 1957 he is the artistic director of the workshop "Pottery, AKEL" who had founded the National Bank. After 1957 working at his private laboratory Marousi, Athens. He presented his work at numerous exhibitions in Greece and abroad ( Silver Medal in Esposition Internationale, Paris 1937 ). In 1982 he became a retrospective exhibition of his work at the National Gallery. Has illustrated books, he has published books, articles and essays in newspapers and magazines in Greece and abroad. His works are in the National Gallery, in the Gallery Katsigras, Vorres Museum, Contemporary Art, Teloglion Foundation, etc and adorning facades and interior both public and private buildings. Is listed in "Directory of Greek Artists" 16th - 20th century, Melissa edition, 1999, volume 1, pages 133-134.
