Item:134485268330Henry Richards - c1905 - Yellow Passion Flowers - Antique Majolica Tiles. Henry Richards Tile Co. Ltd. - Circa 1905 "Yellow Passion Flower & Tortoise Shell" -- Antique * Molded Majolica * Edwardian -- "Presenting an excellent condition, poly-chrome, antique, yellow floral and brown tortoise shell, quarter tile, created by the famous Henry Richards Tile Company, Ltd., circa 1905." This tile presents its two, yellow, Passion Flower blossoms, surrounded by light green, Art Nouveau style, leaves, arranged diagonally from the two quarters of brown, tortoise shell decorated squares, which gives this tile a very rich, Craftsman era, feel. TEN MATCHING TILES OF THIS SAME DESIGN AND COLORWAY CURRENTLY EXIST IN OUR INVENTORY, SHOULD MORE BE DESIRED FOR YOUR PROJECT. This tile may be placed in a very bright location, where direct sunlight may illuminate its colorful brilliance. Don't worry, these tiles are perfectly happy living in the full light of the Sun, and will never fade, or be effected by its heat. Condition: Excellent The tile presents very well, and its glazes are colorful and brilliant, without defects or wear. However, if you look at this tile's lower right corner, you may notice it displays a very slight reduction, and is not a crisp 90 degrees. Since this tile was once part of a back-splash set within a, now vanished, piece of antique furniture, the original installer reduced this corner, in order to allow the passage of a small brass screw, along with a tiny brass washer, which fixed this tile in place, without the use of mortar. This tile escaped the hazards of the fireplace, with its heat, soot, coal shuttle, and cast iron tools, and frame, by being a back-splash tile. But, even if this tile escaped the coal smoke and mortar, the verso is still a bit "grubby" from being handled and cleaned with vinegar for the last 117 years. The diagonal grip pattern is typical of Henry Richards tiles of this period. "England" is embossed. This design is from 1905. Please examine our provided high-resolution scans of this tile to determine its exact state.
