Amazing Detailed Minature Hand Crafted Australian Model of HMAS Swan (c.1970)
HMAS Swan (DE 50), named after the Swan River, was a River-class Escort destroyer of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Constructed in Melbourne following the loss of HMAS Voyager, Swan entered service in 1970 and was originally based on the British Type 12 Frigate and but improved with the onset of the Leander Class Frigate of the RN.
She was finally sunk in 1997 and made into a very popular artificial reef to dive in with her 4.5”Mk V/Mk 6 gun turret, preserved at Princess Royal Fortress, Albany, Western Australia. This turret is still open and accessible to visitors.
The 3.5” minature model is extremely detailed for its size and sits on a homemade 6.5”L plinth with a hand painted sea area depicting the Swan at full speed in calm seas.
