TIBET. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ SALE - PRICE REDUCED FROM $5,599.99 - GREAT VALUE Khmer Bronze Standing Multi-arm Male Deity, Angkor Wat 'Bayon' Period, 13th C. Description: Extremely rare bronze Khmer multi-armed Male Deity figure, probably that of Vishnu, depicted standing in a strong frontal posture on a small rectangular plinth, holding attributes; originally discovered in the Surin Province of northeastern present day Thailand, once the central region of the Khmer Empire. The statue measures 11.50 inches (29.21cm) in height. The figure is superbly executed in traditional Bayon fashion, standing in 'Samabhanga' on a small plinth, with his hands displaying the 'Vitarka' mudra, while hold attributes. The two hands before him hold a lotus bud, and a vase, while his raised hands hold a string of rosary beads and holy sutra. Unclothed above the waist the figure is beautifully modeled with a jeweled necklace, draped in floral pendants. He wears a short vertical striated sampot hung low about the midriff, folded over a highly decorative belt passing around his hips, ornamented with hanging pendants, complimented by an ornate central panel elegantly draped in stylish fish-tail folds. At the reverse is a similar motif, adorned with a large rosette.XXX His contoured face with indigenous characteristic has a serene downcast expression, with open eyes, arched eyebrows carved in relief meet in the middle above a well-shaped broad nose, wide lips with an insipid smile, and pendulous earlobes with Khmer style triangular earring pendants frame his face.. The head is covered in tightly braided hair, enhanced by a conical-shaped topknot, enclosed by an interconnected diadem crown. At the back of the head vertical braids of hair are woven down to the nap of the neck.xxxx Lost wax cast, with a superb naturally aged patina, revealing a mixture of surface encrustations, malachite, cuprite, azurite, calcite, and manganese, from ground water leeching in the soil, along with embedded soil deposits from the environment in which it was maintained. The piece is in excellent condition, unaltered in any way, originally discovered in the Surin Province of northeastern present day Thailand.
