The takrut is similar to a talisman (Arabic: طلسم / transliterated: tilasim).[1] The word Takrut, is used for both Singular and Plural, although many people do add an 's' (Takruts). However, the proper way to refer to takrut when in plural, is 'Takrut'. They are worn by Thai people as a protective amulet and have existed for centuries.[2] They are the most commonly mentioned form of amulet in the Khun Chang Khun Phaen, a Thai epic.[3] They have an elongated scroll-like shape, and are usually made of metal or palm leaf and tied to the body with a cord.[3][4] Yant (ยันต์, yantra) are incantations and sacred geometric designs with Pali gatha and Buddhist prayers (invocations and empowerment spells), usually, but not always inscribed using the ancient Khom Pali script (a variant of Khmer script used in Thailand). In Northern Thailand, they use Lan Na Tai Tham script.[5] The takrut is used for all purposes from Maha Sanaeh (attraction), Metta Mahaniyom (business success and popularity), Mercy Charm, Maha Pokasap/Lap (riches attraction), and Kong Grapan (invincibility). History

Wat Chedi used to be an abandoned temple for more than 1,000 years. It was renovated in the year 1957. The area of Ubosot used to be an abandoned Chedi where villagers would not dare to enter. The history of Ai Khai Wat Chedi or Ta Khai Wat Chedi: Why call it a different name? The answer is that when considering the age of Ai Khai, he was many years old. Villagers believed that it is not appropriate for the descendants or young generations to call “Ai Khai” and they should say “Ta Khai” which is more appropriate. There is a tale that passed on for many generations that the location of the present Wat Chedi, there was Luang Phu Thuad Wat Chang Hai, the famous teacher in the southern area had traveled back from Krung Si Ayutthaya and stayed in that area. Ai Khai is believed to be the child spirit of the age 9-10 years old. He was a disciple that pursued Luang Phu Thuad. When Luang Phu Thuad arrived at this place, he had found many treasures and many important religious places. He had asked Ai Khai to dwell here to watch over these treasures and the place. The name of the village was later changed to “Moo Ban Pho Sadet” until the present. After the year 1957, those who came to stay overnight inside Wat Chedi and if they did not mention, or inform, or ask for forgiveness from Ai Khai, they would not be able to sleep since there would be disturbances all night, such as when they were about to sleep, there would be a child hitting on the head or pulling the legs and arms, disturbing the children’s way. In the year 1983, Pho Than Thoem, who was the abbot of Wat Chedi at that time, had established a coin to worship Ai Khai for the first time as well as developed the temple continually. However, the area at the time was still “the pink area, which meant that there was still the movement of communists. The officials had sent about a hundred rangers to temporarily settle at Wat Chedi, in which the same phenomenon had happened. When the soldiers were about to sleep, they felt that a child had pulled their legs and arms or hit the head with a gun or pushed the gun down so that they could not sleep all night. In the morning, the soldiers had asked the villagers around Wat Chedi and told the story to them. The villagers knew the story and the reputation of Ai Khai. Therefore, they had given the solution. Before preparing a meal, they must mention the name Ai Khai who dwelled in the area. After that, the soldiers did as the villagers had suggested. The next night, they could sleep pleasantly with no disturbances from the child.
