Rare French Antique Limoges Fine Porcelain Coffee Service by A. Lanternier 1910
A rare French antique fine porcelain coffee service dating from 1910, created by Alfred Lanternier – one of the premier pre-war manufacturers and designers in Limoges France.
The elegant set is composed of a tall, lidded coffee pot, a lidded sugar bowl, a milk/cream jug and 8 demi-tasse cups and saucers – all in the very distinctive, square base pattern – one of Lanternier’s signature designs.
The coffee pot measures 8 inches tall and 5 ¼ inches square at the base.
The sugar bowl is 5 5/8 inches tall and 4 3/8 inches at the base and the cream/milk jug measures 5 inches tall and 3 5/8 inches at the base.
The eight demi-tasse cups measure 2 3/8 inches tall and 2 ¾ inches in diameter at the top rim. The unusual square saucers are 4 ½ inches square.
The pieces are stamped with the distinctive half-moon hallmark of A. Lanternier et Cie, and ‘Limoges France’ on the bottom.
All of the pieces are in excellent condition, except the coffee pot lid, which has an old repair of a chip and fine crack, not visible when in place.
Please read before purchasing
Vintage and antique objects have lived and been used and because of that, they sometimes show it. The condition of the object is described as accurately as possible, including its character flaws. But that is really part of the attraction and enjoyment of an old piece.
